Long-Tailed Cuckoo

Genus:  Eudynamys Taitensis

Size:  40cm

Notes:  One of New Zealand's two migratory cuckoos. It returns here for the summer months after spending winter in the Pacific Islands. The female cuckoo exploits the native whitehead and yellowhead by laying her eggs in one of their nests and leaving the incubation and raising of the chick to the foster parents.
