Hochstetter's Frog

Genus:  Leiopelma Hochstetteri

Size:  4.5cm

Notes:  Found in Northland forests. Develops into a frog inside the egg. It eats small insects and their larvae and worms. Hochstetter's frogs are protected by law and if one is found, it must not be handled, disturbed or taken from its hiding place. If the frog is left exposed it very quickly dries out and will die.
