Huhu Beetle

Genus:  Prionoplus Reticularis

Size:  4cm

Notes:  Breeds in dead trees and has adapted well to life in the plantation forest. Huhu grubs can be easily found in rotting logs and are a major factor in decay. Grubs take two to three years to mature and emerge as nocturnal beetles in spring and summer.
