FOREST INDUSTRY CONTRACTORS ASSOCIATION
With membership comprising over 35% of the forest contracting sector this association brings together a large number of forest contractors with the aim of improving outcomes and gain better recognition of their role in the industry and the wider community. The Association's mission is to promote the cause of forest contractors to key policymakers and other agencies as well as enhancing the profitability of contractors. A number of key initiative now include commenting on relevant government policy affecting contracting businesses, widening knowledge of the professionalism of the sector and providing members with services in areas of business improvement, technology transfer and "working smarter". To do this FICA maintains an active programme of conferences, regional seminars and workshops.
As one of many representative groups making up the diverse and growing forest industry in New Zealand, FICA plays a key role in interacting with other key players in the industry including ACC and DOL, major forest owners, the media and research providers to ensure the forestry and forest contracting industries continue to have a vibrant future. A key objective of FICA has been to take a long-term, mature and strategic approach to improving key performance indicators in health and safety as well as productivity in all areas where forest contractors are and can be engaged.
As one of the major events designed to maintain professional development among contractors the Association's annual conference draws together key participants across the forest contracting companies, forest management companies and harvesting disciplines from throughout Australasia including equipment, technology and services suppliers. Representatives from all groups come together to network, debate and learn about advances in tools and techniques coming online to improve the safety, efficiency and profitability of forest contracting companies.
