MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE AND FORESTRY

MAF promotes a business environment in which the forestry sector (acting on its own behalf) can seize economic opportunities.  It also oversees the advancement of certain social goals (e.g. sustainability of indigenous forests) along witht he protection and enhancement of the environment.  The ministry performs other functions on behalf of the Crown including:

  • Policy advice to government
    Provision of information on forestry to the government, forestry sector and the New Zealand public
    Forest pest and disease prevention services
    Administration of grants, leases and residual forest service operations
    Management of Crown lease forests on Maori land
    Managing the East Coast forestry project
    Administering forestry encouragement loans and other residual New Zealand forest service operations.
