NEW ZEALAND INSTITUTE OF FORESTRY
The New Zealand Institute of Forestry (NZIF) is a national body representing those engaged int he profession of forestry. Incorporated in 1927, it now has 735 members, guided by a national council, with a number of working groups and local sections.
The Institute prides itself on being an independent advocate for forestry. It is proactive on issues within and outside the forestry sector, providing leadership on matters such as forest valuation, forestry investment informaiton standards, sustainable forest management and forestry education. It makes submissions on behalf of its members on public matters which involve forestry such as management of indigenous timbers, leaky buildings, global warming, and biosecurity.
The NZIF requires its members who provide consulting services to be registered, to help ensure high professional standards of service are attained. Maintenance of the NZIF registration scheme for members and consultants is becoming increasingly important as the sector grows and matures.
Student membership is encouraged at discounted rates.
