SCION

Scion (formerly known as Forest Research Institute) is a Crown Research Institute encompassing Forestry science as well as additional research capabilities in renewable materials and plant products. Researchers concentrate in areas of Cellwall Biotechnology, Biomaterials Engineering, Eco-Smart Technologies and Sustainable Consumer Products.

Ensis is a joint venture of Scion and CSIRO providing R&D technology for the wood processing sectors and it has seven components:
 
Genetics - Breeding better forests for maximum returns
Forests - Adding value to our forests
Forest Biosecurity and Protection – Protecting our forests
Environment - Protecting and enhancing the environment with forests
Wood Quality - Linking quality to value
Wood Processing – Ensuring the place of wood in a modern market
Papro – Optimising processes and products in pulp, paper and packaging.

Scion also has three commercial business units that provide specialist services to niche markets and they are: Atlas Technology, COHFE and Veritec.
