FOREST CODE OF PRACTICE

The Forest Code was developed by the Logging Industry Research Organisation in conjunction with the industry to increase awareness of the effects of forestry operations on other values both on and off the site  (e.g. the effect of soil disturbace on water quality).

The forest code is intended to ensure that environmental and commercial values are recognised in plantation forests. It lists the forestry operations and their effects on the environment and the methods of reducing those effects.

While the code was developed for plantation forests, it is equally applicable to operations in natural forests.

Click on the chart to see the important values in relation to forestry operations.  For every forest operation, each of the values are considered and appropriate actions taken to ensure that the values are protected.
